I recently spoke about several treatments I was interested in trying when it comes to ageing well & the one that interested me the most was Ultherapy. I had been reading about it and researching before & after photos along with reviews from people who had the procedure done. It’s not a quick fix & is not a cheap option however, I was lucky enough to be approached by The Laser and Skin Clinic on Baggot Street to see if I’d like to get the treatment done and report back on my findings.
It’s first of all important to note that the full results take 6 months to show, so this isn’t a before and after piece but a review of how I found the treatment itself. So, if you are thinking about getting it done, hopefully this will help you to make an informed decision.
I went to The Laser and Skin Clinic in Dublin and was looked after by Anna. While getting the treatment, an interview with me was recorded along with the procedure itself which you can view here. I’ll be in with Anna from The Laser and Skin Clinic next week again, so will befollowing up with questions I’ve been asked on Instagram. This way she will be able to give as much information as possible.
Firstly, what is Ultherapy?
Ultherapy is the only FDA approved non-surgical “face lift”. Ultrasound energy is used to lift and tighten the skin naturally – without surgery or downtime. Ultherapy is the only non-invasive procedure FDA-cleared to lift skin on the neck, under the chin and on the eyebrow area. It can improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles giving a fresher look & can also be used on the décolletage, which can be one of the first places where ageing shows. In essence, Ultherapy can help you achieve a fresher, more youthful look from your brow to your chest!
How does the treatment work?
Ultherapy is a non-surgical ultrasound treatment that stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin deep within the skin. It uses precise ultrasound energy to target the deep structural layers of the skin without disrupting the skin’s surface. After treatment, the body’s tissue repair process stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin, creating a natural lifting effect. Collagen stops reproducing at around 27 so there’s no potions or creams that will fix that. A more targeted treatment in a clinic is required.
What can it be used to treat?
- Skin laxity & sagging
- Lowered brows
- Sagging under the chin
- Loose skin on the neck
- Lines & wrinkles on décolletage
Where did I get it done?
I got mine done at The Laser and Skin Clinic, Dublin. They have three clinics around Ireland and you can access their website here. Anna, who is the owner did my treatment. She is a trained aesthetic nurse and has worked in the industry for 15 years. She is incredibly knowledgeable (looks amazing!!) and put me at ease throughout answering all my questions.
How long does it take?
It takes between 60 – 90 minutes
When can I see results?
I immediately saw a tightening around the jawline which Anna explained to me was the heat generated within the skin. Over the coming months, I should see more of a lift around the areas I had treated.
Where did I get the treatment?
I had the treatment done on my face and neck. The areas around my eyes, cheeks, jaw and upper neck were treated to lift and tighten the skin. Areas of the face are marked out as you are not allowed to use the ultrasound in specific areas, so it is very precise and safe. There was some markings on my skin for a day or two afterwards which you will see below. They disappeared within 48 hours.
Was it painful?
This was the most asked question I received, when I said I was having it done. Pain thresholds vary & I would consider mine to be decent. Anna gave me some painkillers prior to the treatment so any discomfort would be at a minimum. For the first hour, I felt short little tingling sensations that went across the skin as the machine was moved along. My cheeks & eye area were totally fine. I will admit however that when it came to the neck area, there was a more intense feeling as there’s less fat around there to absorb the ultrasound compared to my cheeks! It was however bearable but I’m sure the painkillers assisted with that. For about one week afterwards, the area around my jaw was tender to the touch, however Anna explained this was normal, so I wasn’t concerned. It has since passed.
How much does it cost?
Prices start from 250euro depending on what areas you wish to have done. All information is on The Laser and Skin Clinic website.
Should you have it done?
If you’re concerned about sagging jaw, a lowered brow or deep-set wrinkles and funds allow then this could be for you. I only had it done a couple of weeks ago, so you will need to see me in around 5 months if you want to see my results before deciding. It’s said to be used by J Lo and Christie Brinkley so while I may not look like a supermodel at the end, I’ve high hopes of looking like a fresher version of myself. There are no miracle cures when it comes to ageing well, it’s a mixture of good skincare, eating well and investing in treatments that are proven to be effective and very importantly, FDA approved. Always go to a reputable supplier. I can highly recommend the Laser & Skin Clinic for their knowledge and professionalism. I will keep you posted as the months go on.
